General Interest

General
Canada secured a spot for the 2020 Games in Tokyo by reaching the final of the 2020 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship. The Canadian team topped their group with three wins and then beat Costa Rica 1-0 in the semifinals, before coming unstuck in the final and falling to a 3-0 defeat against the United States of America.

The Canadian team made their first Olympic appearance in 2008, where they lost in the quarterfinals to the US team, and then claimed successive bronze medals in 2012 and 2016. Canada topped their group at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro with three wins, which included a 2-1 victory over eventual gold medallists Germany. They beat France 1-0 in the last eight, but lost in the semifinals to a Germany side looking to avenge their loss from the group stage. Canada recovered from the defeat to see off hosts Brazil 2-1 in the bronze medal match.

Canada's best result at the Women's World Cup came in 2003, where they advanced to the semifinals before losing 2-1 to Sweden. They were then beaten 3-1 by the United States of America in the bronze medal match. At the most recent Women's World Cup in 2019, the Canadians exited the competition at the round of 16 stage.

Canada are two-time winners of the CONCACAF Women's Championship, most recently in 2010. In 2011 they claimed their first gold medal at the Pan American Games, beating Brazil 4-3 in a penalty shootout in the final.
