General Interest

General
Mexico qualified for their first Olympic Games courtesy of an undefeated run through the Americas Olympic qualification event held in Canada in 2019. Their first-place finish at the round robin tournament included a 2-1 win over hosts and eventual runners-up, Canada.

Mexico have competed at four editions of the world championships, and finished 15th on their debut in 1990. They did not participate at the tournament again until 2012, when they finished in last place, but in more recent years their results have improved. In 2016 they finished equal fifth, their best result at the tournament, with defeats to Japan and Canada keeping them out of the medal round. In 2018 they dropped one place to sixth, with a 2-1 loss to Australia ending their campaign prior to the medal round.

They have also taken part in four editions of the USA Softball-governed World Cup, with sixth-place finishes in 2014 and 2015 their best outings. They were ranked in eighth and last place at the most recent edition in 2017.

At continental level Mexico posted their best Pan American Games result, a fourth-place finish, at their second outing at the Games in 2019. They lost against the United States of America and Canada in the group stages, but did manage to overcome Peru and Venezuela. Defeat in the semifinals against Puerto Rico ended their hopes of fighting for a medal. Their only other appearance was as hosts at the 2011 Games in Guadalajara, where they finished sixth.
