The Republic of Korea qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games by winning the 2020 Asian Football Confederation [AFC] U23 Championship in Thailand.

The Koreans have competed at 10 editions of the Games, and are making their ninth consecutive Olympic appearance at Tokyo 2020. Their debut came at the 1948 Games in London. The team secured their best result at London 2012, where they remained undefeated during the group stage and beat hosts Great Britain in the quarterfinals, winning 5-4 in a penalty shootout. They lost 3-0 to Brazil in the semifinals, before bouncing back to defeat Japan 2-0 in the bronze medal match.

At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro they advanced from the group stage, scoring 12 goals in the process, before losing 1-0 to Honduras in the quarterfinals.
