CHANGE OF POSITION
He initially played as a forward, before switching to goalkeeper in grade four of primary school. He changed position under the advice of his coach, who recognised that he was taller than the other children. "I liked scoring, so I didn't really want to switch my position. However, now I realised that it was the right decision. I don't regret it at all, because I'm doing what I do best." (news.chosun.com, 30 May 2017; news.joins.com, 22 May 2017)

NAME
His father named him 'Bum-Keun' in honour of Korean footballer Cha Bum-Kun. "I played for FC Chaboom [run by Cha Bum-Kun] in primary school. When my father said my name 'Bum-Keun' out loud while looking for me, all the coaching staff looked up, startled." (news.joins.com, 22 May 2017; KFA Naver blog, 13 Jun 2016)
