General Interest

OLYMPIC WINTER GAMES
Debuted at St. Moritz 1928, winning bronze four years later (Lake Placid) in the four-team tournament. Competed as a Unified team during the 1950s and 1960s, before the Federal Republic of Germany competed individually, winning bronze at Innsbruck 1976. Played at every Games since reunification in 1992, only missing Sochi 2014, when they failed to qualify.

Their best result came at PyeongChang 2018, losing the gold medal game 4-3 to Olympic Athletes from Russia in overtime, Kirill Kaprizov (OAR) scoring the winner. Their appearance in the final seemed unlikely after winning one match in the preliminary round, a shootout victory against Norway. However, in the playoffs they scored overtime wins against Switzerland (2-1), Sweden (4-3) and a 4-3 win against Canada, the back-to-back Olympic champions.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Silver medallists at their first World Championships appearance in 1930 and a bronze medal at their third (1934), the Federal Republic of Germany collected the only other medal won by a German team in 1953 (silver).

Competing solely in the top division since 2007, they have played for bronze twice. In 2010, they lost 3-1 to Sweden, after losing by one to Russian Federation in the semifinal when Pavel Datsyuk (RUS) scored the go-ahead goal with 1:50 remaining. While in 2021, the team suffered a 6-1 defeat to the United States in the bronze medal game, after a shootout win against Switzerland in the quarterfinals and a one-goal defeat to Finland in the semis.

QUALIFICATION
Qualified for Beijing 2022 after finishing seventh in qualification seeding, following the 2019 World Championship in Slovakia.

World Ranking: 5th (2905 pts)
