Competing at 17 Olympic Winter Games, Finland has contested every Olympic ice hockey tournament since Squaw Valley 1960, after debuting eight years earlier at Oslo 1952.

The team has played in the gold medal match twice, losing on both occasions to the Soviet Union (Calgary 1988) and Sweden (Torino 2006). They also have played in the bronze medal match six times, winning on four occasions, the most recent being at Sochi 2014 where they defeated the United States 5-0.

Finished sixth at PyeongChang 2018 after winning a medal the past three Games, and in six of the past eight. After defeating hosts Republic of Korea 5-2 in the playoffs, the team lost to eventual bronze medallist Canada in the quarterfinals 1-0, when Maxim Noreau (CAN) slotted the game-winner 55 seconds into the third period.

WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Contested the gold medal match at the World Championships 12 times since 1992, winning in 1995 and 2011 (against Sweden) and in 2019 against Canada. Played the Canadians again for gold at the following championship in 2021, where the team lost in overtime when Nick Paul (CAN) scored the winner 6:26 into the extra time.
