Team Edin

General Interest

Sweden, alongside Great Britain, are the only nations to have competed at all seven Olympic curling tournaments, winning silver at the inaugural contest in Chamonix 1924. Great Britain won gold.

When curling returned to the Olympic programme in 1998 in Nagano, it took the Swedes 16 years to win another medal. After fourth-place finishes in Salt Lake City 2002 and Vancouver 2010, Sweden, skipped by Niklas Edin, overcame a last end defeat to Great Britain in the semi-finals at Sochi 2014, to win their bronze medal match against the People’s Republic of China. Four years later, Team Edin would win silver after giving up five shots to the United States in the eighth end, losing the gold medal game 10-7.

Sweden is the second most successful nation at the World Championships with nine titles, with four victories and two runner-up finishes in the last decade. Niklas Edin has skipped the Swedish team since 2011, with the exception of Oskar Eriksson’s team in 2014. Edin and Eriksson have a record five World Championship titles, and alongside Rasmus Wrana and Christoffer Sundgren, are the first team to win three consecutive World Championships (2018, 2019, 2021).

Edin and Eriksson also have a record seven European Championship titles, and with Sundgren, are the first curlers to win four consecutive gold medals (2014-17).

Sweden qualified for Beijing 2022 after finishing 1st at the 2021 World Championships in Calgary.

World Ranking: 1st (89.020 pts)

TEAM EDIN
Oskar Eriksson had been an alternate on Niklas Edin’s team since 2009. After the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games, Edin’s team dissolved and Eriksson was chosen to skip a new team at the World Championships in Beijing a month later. Finishing second, Eriksson agreed to form a new team with Edin as skip, bringing Kristian Lindstrom and Christoffer Sundgren with him to form the new Team Edin.

After an injury to Lindstrom in 2016, he was replaced by Rasmus Wrana. Since then, the team has finished first or second after every major international tournament, winning two World Championships, two European titles and an Olympic silver medal. Also, first non-Canadian team to win a Grand Slam event winning the Masters in 2016.
