General Interest

General
The United States of America have claimed gold in women's wheelchair basketball at three of the past four editions of the Paralympic Games. Having won back-to-back Paralympic gold medals in 2004 and 2008, the team went home empty-handed from London 2012 after losing to the Netherlands 71-47 in the bronze medal match.

At Rio 2016, the US team overcame hosts Brazil in the quarterfinals before defeating Great Britain in the last four. A 62-45 victory over Germany in the final secured their fourth Paralympic title, the most by any nation in women's wheelchair basketball at the Paralympic Games.

The United States of America finished on the podium at six consecutive editions of the world championships between 1990 and 2010 [winning two gold medals and four silver medals], but have missed out on a medal at the two most recent editions of the tournament in 2014 and 2018. In 2018 the team lost to Great Britain in the quarterfinals to miss out on the semifinals for the first time at the world championships.

The team won gold at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto, overcoming hosts Canada 80-72 to secure victory. They followed this up with a silver medal at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru, this time losing to Canada 67-64 in the gold medal match. Despite the defeat, the team's victory over Argentina in semifinal was enough to qualify the United States of America for the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
