After her accident she got involved with the Challenged Athletes Foundation and was introduced to wheelchair basketball. She continued to play at the Metropolitan State University of Denver before being offered a scholarship at the University of Arizona. "[My parents] kind of pushed me to start getting active again because they knew that what I needed was to be active. Initially I was like, 'Oh I don't know about adaptive athletics. Wheelchair sports just doesn't seem very competitive'. It was incredible. I was thankful I had the opportunity to play at Metro. Being at Metro taught me to be competitive at an elite level.
