After her accident she got involved with the Challenged Athletes Foundation and was introduced to wheelchair basketball. She continued to play at the Metropolitan State University of Denver before being offered a scholarship at the University of Arizona. "[My parents] kind of pushed me to start getting active again because they knew that what I needed was to be active. Initially I was like, 'Oh I don't know about adaptive athletics. Wheelchair sports just doesn't seem very competitive'. It was incredible. I was thankful I had the opportunity to play at Metro. Being at Metro taught me to be competitive at an elite level. That carried over to the [Arizona] Wildcats." (mymetmedia.com, 01 Jan 2013; uscannenbergmedia.com, 05 Apr 2016)

Impairment Details
In 2010 while playing football a blood clot in her back burst and leaked into her spinal cord, causing paralysis from the waist down. "About 20 minutes into the game I was playing forward and someone passed [the ball] to the defence. I remember being slide tackled, and as soon as I landed on my back, it felt like someone stabbing me in my back. A blood clot had leaked into my spinal cord and when it burst it caused some of the nerves to detach. I collapsed and don't really remember much after that because I went into shock."
