General Interest

General
Germany secured their spot at Tokyo 2020 through the 2019 Europe Zonal Championships in Rotterdam. They are looking to reach their fourth consecutive Paralympic final at the 2020 Games.

The German team have competed at each edition of the Paralympic Games since 1992. They did not finish on the podium at their first four appearances at the Games, although they lost the bronze medal match to Canada at Athens 2004. Germany reached their first Paralympic final at the 2008 Games in Beijing but they went down 50-38 to the United States of America and had to settle for silver. They won their first title four years later in London, beating the Australians 58-44, but could not make it back-to-back victories in Rio following another defeat in the final to the US team.

Germany have consistently reached the podium at the world championship in recent years. They were losing finalists in 2010 and 2014, falling to defeat to the United States of America and Canada, respectively, and they won bronze in 2006 and 2018. The Germans were also silver medallists at the inaugural 1990 World Championship in St. Etienne.
