General Interest

General
Brazil arrive in Tokyo as the reigning world champions, just as they did when they hosted the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. After topping their group at the 2018 World Championships in Malmo, they defeated Sweden and then Lithuania in the knockout stages to setup a final against Germany. The Brazilians dominated the final, winning 8-3, in doing so securing qualification for Tokyo. Their triumph in Malmo made them the second team to win back-to-back world titles, having defeated Finland in the 2014 final.

After making their Paralympic Games debut in 2008, Brazil claimed their first medal in London in 2012. They overcame Belgium and Lithuania in the knockout rounds before losing the final 8-1 to Finland. Their silver medal in London made them the first South American nation to win a Paralympic medal in goalball.

Four years later on home soil in Rio, the Brazilian team won all four group matches to secure a place in the quarterfinals, where a 10-3 victory over the People's Republic of China was followed by a 10-1 loss to the United States of America in the semifinals. The Brazilians required extra time to overcome Sweden 6-5 in the bronze medal match.
