General
Croatia secured a place at Tokyo 2020 through their third-place finish at the Olympic Qualification Tournament played in February 2021.

The Tokyo Games are Croatia's seventh Olympic participation, and they are looking to win their third straight medal. At Rio 2016, Croatia finished second in their group before beating Brazil in the quarterfinals and Montenegro in the last four. They 11-7 lost to Serbia in the gold medal game, which ended their hopes of defending the title they won in 2012. The gold at London 2012 was their second Olympic medal, coming after the silver they won in 1996 in Atlanta.

They have been a regular contender at the world championships, recording top-three finishes at each of the last seven editions of the tournament. They won gold at the tournament in 2007 and 2017, and finished in third place at the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju.

Croatia won the 2012 World League Super Final and have had top-three finishes on six other occasions.
