POSTPONED RETIREMENT
He planned to retire from the national team in 2020, however due to the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo he decided to prolong his career to 2021. He has also contemplated continuing his career into 2022 as Croatia will host the 2022 European Championships in Split. "In our sport, like in many others, you think by Olympic cycles. I said many times that I would like to finish my career with the end of that cycle, and this was supposed to be after the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2020. However, with the Olympic Games in Tokyo rescheduled to 2021 I said that I am ready for this. And Split, it will be definitely be a great and beautiful opportunity to play the European championships at home, on home soil. I believe that the atmosphere will be amazing. I remember perfectly until today, with every detail how it was [at the 2010 European championships] in Zagreb. A very unique feeling." (hvs.hr, 20 Nov 2020)
