Team Krause

General Interest

Denmark’s men have qualified for their third successive Olympic competition – and fifth overall – with an entirely new lineup. Skip Mikkel Krause won the 2010 World Junior Championship with 2014 and 2018 Olympic skip Rasmus Stjerne, who retired after PyeongChang, and will attempt to take Denmark higher than their sixth-place finish at Sochi 2014.

At World Championships, Denmark has won three medals – silver in 2016, and bronze in 1990 and 1985 – since their first appearance in 1973. Team Krause went 3-10 for 11th place at the 2021 World Championship in Calgary, but rebounded last November to finish in sixth place (4-5) at the European Championships in Lillehammer.

Team Krause grabbed the final Olympic berth with a come-from-behind 8-5 win over the Czech Republic at the Olympic Qualifying Event in December. In September, they had won three sudden-death games against rival Tobias Thune to capture a gruelling best of 11 series (six games to five) to compete at the OQE. Thune is the alternate in Beijing.

The Danes have a 4-10 head-to-head-record against the Beijing field, including 0-2 against Switzerland and 0-3 versus Sweden. They are 1-2 against Great Britain.

Krause acknowledges the difficulty in beating his top three Beijing opponents. “So (Canada is) definitely not a game that you expect to win. I feel the same about Sweden and Scotland at the moment. Those teams are just insane.”

World Ranking: 12th (21.90 pts)
