General Interest

General
Great Britain secured qualification for Tokyo 2020 by winning gold at the 2019 European Championship in Vejle, where they beat hosts Denmark 55-45 in the final. It was their third consecutive triumph at the tournament and seventh European title in total, more than any other nation.

The British team are yet to replicate their continental success at the Paralympic Games, where they have never won a medal. At Rio 2016 they recorded one win and two defeats in the group stage before overcoming Sweden 56-42 to finish fifth. This mirrored their performance four years earlier, when on home soil they also defeated Sweden in the fifth-place match. Great Britain have come closest to the Paralympic podium in 2004 and 2008, losing the bronze medal match to the US team in Athens and to Canada in Beijing.

They are also yet to win a world championship medal, despite participating at each edition since the inaugural tournament in 1995 and coming close on several occasions. At the 2018 edition in Sydney, Great Britain narrowly lost their semifinal 59-57 to Australia, and finished fourth after being defeated in the bronze medal match by the United States of America. They also placed fourth at the tournament in 1995 and 2006.
