General Interest

General
The United States of America qualified for the 2020 Games after winning gold at the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru, defeating Canada 76-43 in the final.

The US men's team were a dominant force in the early years of the sport's Paralympic history, winning gold medals regularly at the Games during the 1960s and 1970s. The team topped the podium in Rio in 2016 for the first time since the 1988 Games in Seoul.

At the 2016 Games in Rio, the United States of America won all eight of their matches, including victories over the Netherlands, Turkey and Spain in the knockout rounds to secure their eighth gold medal at the Games, more than any other nation. They have also won bronze on four occasions, most recently at London 2012, and one silver in 1968.

Their history at the world championships runs a similarly impressive course. After winning six out of seven gold medals on offer between 1979 and 2002, the US team have been unable to secure another world title since, despite consistently achieving podium finishes. They finished as runners-up in the two most recent editions of the tournament in 2014 and 2018.
