General Interest

General
NATIONAL FIRST
He is the first head coach to win gold medals at the Paralympic Games with both the US men's and the US women's wheelchair basketball teams. (nwba.org, 22 Dec 2018)

LONG WAIT
He coached the US men's basketball team to their first gold medal at a Paralympic Games in 28 years, when they topped the podium at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. "We never talked about being on a 28-year drought or getting bronze in London [2012]. We just played one game at a time and one tournament at a time. And this year the whole focus was going to Rio. If we played like we knew we could, then we had a shot at winning gold." (teamusa.org, 23 Sep 2016)

WHEELCHAIR BASKETBALL BEGINNINGS
He became involved in wheelchair basketball at the University of Kentucky in the United States of America. "When I was an undergraduate student we had to do a 90-hour fieldwork [project]. They had a wheelchair basketball team on campus, I did not have a car so I needed something close and I liked sports. I got involved with [the wheelchair basketball team], did my 90 hours in about two weeks, really enjoyed it and just stayed with it." (stlsportspage.com, 09 Jun 2016)
