General Interest

General
Turkey qualified for Tokyo 2020 after reaching the semifinals at the 2019 European Championships in Poland. Despite losing their semifinal to Great Britain, they were already assured of their qualification for Tokyo and recovered to beat Germany 76-65 in the bronze medal match.

The Turkish team built on their seventh-place finish from London 2012 and narrowly missed out on the podium at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. They advanced from the group stage to defeat hosts Brazil in the quarterfinals before losing out to eventual gold medallists the United States of America at the semifinal stage. They then lost 82-76 to Great Britain in the bronze medal match to miss out on a medal.

Turkey's only medal at the world championships came in 2014, beating Spain 68-63 in the bronze medal match. Most of Turkey's success has come at continental level, where they have claimed a medal in each of the last four editions of the European championships, including gold in 2017.
