General Interest

General
Great Britain arrive in Tokyo as the reigning world and European champions and will be looking to win their first gold medal at the Paralympic Games. They secured their qualification for the 2020 Games by winning the 2019 European Championship in Poland, beating Spain 77-52 in the final to claim their seventh European title.

The British team have been consistent performers on the Paralympic stage in recent years, winning bronze medals at three of the five editions of the Games since 2000. At the 2016 Games in Rio, they finished second in Group B behind eventual gold medallists the United States of America. They defeated Australia in the quarterfinals before losing to Spain in the semifinals. They recovered to defeat Turkey 82-76 in the bronze medal match.

The British team claimed their first world title in 2018. They beat Germany and Spain in the round of 16 and quarterfinals, respectively, before overcoming the Islamic Republic of Iran in the semifinals. In the final they defeated the United States of America 79-62. Great Britain have finished runners-up on two occasions, in 1994 and 2002, and won bronze in 1975.
