General Interest

General
Spain secured their spot at Tokyo 2020 after finishing runners-up at the 2019 European Championships in Poland. Despite losing the final 77-52 to Great Britain, they were already assured of their place at the 2020 Games by reaching the semifinals.

The Spanish team are making their fifth appearance at the Paralympic Games and are looking for their first gold medal, having claimed silver last time out in Rio in 2016. In Rio they topped group A with a record of four wins and one loss and progressed to the final following victories over Germany and Great Britain in the knockout rounds. They were defeated 68-52 by the United States of America in the gold medal match.

The Spaniards are yet to achieve a podium finish at the world championships and came closest at the 2014 edition in Incheon, where they were defeated by Turkey in the bronze medal match. At the 2018 World Championship in Germany, the team were eliminated by Great Britain at the quarterfinal stage but went on beat Turkey and Poland in the classification matches to finish in fifth place.
