General Interest

General
Canada qualified for the 2020 Paralympic Games by reaching the final of the 2019 Parapan American Games in Lima, Peru. They lost the final 76-43 to the United States of America but a runners-up spot was enough to secure their place in Tokyo.

Canada's run of four consecutive final appearances at the Paralympic Games came to an end in Rio in 2016. They lost all five group matches in Rio, with their only victory coming in a classification match against Algeria to secure 11th place out of 12 teams. Four years earlier in London, the team beat Australia 64-58 in the final to claim gold. It was revenge for Canada, who lost in the final to Australia at the 2008 Games in Beijing. They also beat Australia to gold at the 2004 Games in a successful defence of their Sydney 2000 gold medal, which they won against the Netherlands.

The Canadian team's sole world title came at the 2006 World Championship in Amsterdam, Netherlands, beating their continental rivals the United States of America 59-41 in the gold medal match. The Canadians won four consecutive bronze medals at the world championships between 1990 and 2002, and also claimed silver in 1986.
