After the accident that resulted in his impairment, his father decided to set up a wheelchair basketball team in the family's hometown of Sherbrooke, QC, Canada. "Without my dad, maybe I would have never started playing wheelchair basketball and who knows what my future would have been. Sport really helped me see my disability as something I could really deal with and use it to do something great." (thestar.com, 06 Aug 2014; wheelchairbasketball.ca, 07 Dec 2020)

General
MOTIVATION
At age nine he was involved in a car accident which killed his mother and left him, his sister and twin brother with paraplegia. After spending six months recovering in hospital he returned home and soon used wheelchair basketball as a way to carry on with normal life, as did his siblings. "We were used to driving on that road. I think we were all feeling pretty safe with my dad driving. It was a day like any other day. I could not believe we were in that car and we made it. I'd say we were lucky in bad luck. We're healthy right now. Our injuries could have been a lot worse. I guess some people realise we've been through a lot of difficult events. They think it's horrible and it could destroy us but, instead, we decided to do sports, practice hard and love life. I would be lying if I said it was always easy. It's not. Sometimes I would like to go back in the past, which is not possible of course. It's not always easy but basketball helps me a lot. I'm just always trying to find positive thoughts and positive things to do." (thestar.com, 06 Aug 2014)
