General Interest

General
The US team arrive at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo looking to defend the gold medal they won at the 2016 Games. In Rio they overcame the People's Republic of China 3-0 in the final to secure their first Paralympic gold medal. The victory ended a run of US defeats to the Chinese team in gold medal matches at the Paralympic Games, having lost to their rivals in the final at both the 2008 and 2012 Games. The US team also have a Paralympic bronze medal from the 2004 Games in Athens.

At the world championships, the US team have won silver at each of the last three editions, losing to the People's Republic of China in back-to-back finals in 2010 and 2014. They suffered a 3-1 defeat to the Russian Federation in the 2018 final in the Netherlands, however, their runners-up spot was enough to ensure qualification for Tokyo.

The US team are reigning champions at the Parapan American Games, having secured wins over Brazil in the final in both 2015 and 2019.
