General Interest

General
Australia qualified for the 2020 Paralympic Games as one of two teams to secure their spots at the 2019 Paralympic Ranking Tournament in Fort Wayne, IN, United States of America. Tokyo is Australia's seventh Games, with the team making their debut at Seoul 1988.

Australia are yet to win a Paralympic medal. At the 2016 Games in Rio they were eliminated from Group D, which included Turkey and the Chinese team who went on to win gold and silver, respectively. The Australians did manage a draw with Ukraine, but another loss to Canada meant they did not progress and were eventually ranked ninth. That matched their result from London 2012, where they were also knocked out in the group phase without a victory.

The Australians advanced to the quarterfinals at the 2018 World Championships in Malmo, where Brazil defeated them 5-2. Australia's final ranking of eighth was their equal-best result in four world championship appearances since 2006.
