Football 5-a-side - Team Spain

Spain have appeared in each edition of the Paralympic Games since football 5-a-side made its debut at the 2004 Games in Athens. They qualified for Tokyo 2020 by winning the 2019 European Championships in Rome.

The Spanish team have twice finished on the podium at the Paralympic Games, defeating Greece 2-0 in the bronze medal match at Athens 2004 and then beating Argentina on penalties to secure third place at London 2012. Spain placed third in Group B at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro and then lost to Turkey in the classification round to finish with a final ranking of sixth.

The Spanish are consistent performers at international level. In addition to their two medals at the Paralympic Games, the team have also finished on the podium at three of the last five editions of the world championships, finishing runners-up in 2002 and 2010 and coming third in 2014. As hosts of the 2018 World Championship in Madrid, they were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage by the Russian Federation.
