General Interest

Slovakia made its Paralympic debut at the 1996 Games in Atlanta, where athletes from the NPC won two gold medals. Andrej Zatko claimed gold in the men's S3 50m butterfly, while Anton Sluka won the men's T12 marathon.

Table tennis player Jan Riapos is Slovakia's most successful athlete at the Paralympic Games, winning a total of five medals [four gold, one silver]. He claimed gold in the men's class 2 singles in 2004 and 2012, and gold in the men's class 1-2 team event in 2008 and 2012. Riapos has since gone on to serve as president of the Slovak Paralympic Committee.

Slovakian athletes secured five gold medals at Rio 2016, equalling the NPC's previous best from the 2004 Games in Athens. Shooter Veronika Vadovicova and cyclist Jozef Metelka both won two gold medals in Brazil, while Slovakian boccia players also claimed victory in the BC4 mixed pairs event.
