General Interest
Puerto Rico made its Paralympic debut at the 1988 Games in Seoul, where Isabel Bustamante claimed three medals in athletics throwing events. She won the NPC's first gold medal, securing the women's 1B shot put title, and also claimed silver medals in the 1B discus and 1B javelin events.
Alexis Pizarro added bronze medals to the NPC's medal total in the men's F57 shot put and F58 javelin at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004, respectively. Shooter Nilda Gomez won Puerto Rico's most recent Paralympic medal by claiming bronze in the women's SH1 air rifle standing event at the Beijing 2008 Games.
At Rio 2016, Puerto Rico sent a delegation of four athletes to compete in swimming, archery, and judo.
