Her parents, a volleyball official and a physical education teacher, encouraged her to try sport. At age seven she began to play volleyball and at age 11 she took up softball, before switching to Para athletics. "When I played volleyball I was given a prosthetic in order to play better. With that prosthetic I could run long distances and I said, 'Why don't I try running as well?' And that's how I got into Para athletics."
