Namibia - Profile
General Interest
Namibia sent its first delegation of athletes to the Paralympic Games in 1992, then did not appear at the next two Games. The NPC has been represented at every Paralympic Games since 2004, and has won eight Paralympic medals, including two golds. All of its medals have come in athletics.
Reginald Benade won the NPC's first Paralympic medal when he came third in the men's F35/36 discus in Beijing in 2008. Johanna Benson then won Namibia's first Paralympic gold medal at London 2012. She was victorious in the women's T37 200m, and also claimed silver in the women's T37 100m in London.
Five of Namibia's eight Paralympic medals were won at the 2016 Games in Rio. Ananias Shikongo claimed three of those, with the highlight a gold in the men's T11 200m. Johannes Nambala won the NPC's other two medals in Rio, securing silver in both the men's T13 400m and T13 100m.
