General Interest

The Islamic Republic of Iran made its Paralympic debut at the Seoul 1988 Games and has won at least one gold medal at every edition since.

Ghader Modabber Raz won five gold and one bronze medal in athletics between 1996 and 2000. Mokhtar Nourafshan won four Paralympic titles across three disciplines - discus, shot put and javelin - at three Games [1988, 1996, 2000].

The Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong tradition in men's sitting volleyball, claiming six gold and two silver medals from its eight Paralympic appearances. At the London 2012 Games, the Iranian team lost in the final to Bosnia and Herzegovina but it returned to the top step in Brazil in 2016.

Two women, Zahra Nemati and Sareh Javanmardi, have won multiple gold medals for the NPC. Nemati won her gold medals in recurve archery events, her 2012 title coming in the W1/W2 category and her 2016 win in the open class. Javanmardi is a pistol shooter who took both her medals in 2016, winning the mixed SH1 50m event and the women's SH1 10 air pistol crown.
