She has represented the Islamic Republic of Iran in both able-bodied archery and Para archery. In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, she won gold in individual recurve at the Paralympic Games and placed 33rd in the women's individual competition at the Olympic Games. Prior to her accident she competed in taekwondo at an elite level and held a black belt. SPINAL INJURY
She uses a wheelchair after sustaining a serious spinal injury at age 18 when she was hit by a car. She was a black belt in taekwondo before the incident, and took up archery in 2007. "Archery made me strong, and taught me the meaning of strength. When I was 18 I lost the ability to walk in a car accident. I was close to losing my life. But I had a chance to live." OTHER ACTIVITIES
She has served as an ambassador for the United Nations for her role in empowering women through sport and has been a sustainable development goals ambassador for UNESCO.
