Highlights:

Australia has competed at every Paralympic Games and has finished in the top five of the medal table at every edition since 1996. Australia topped the medal table as hosts in 2000 in Sydney, obtaining 63 gold medals and 149 medals in total. It was the NPC's second-highest overall tally, having collected 154 medals in 1984.

Australia has excelled in athletics and swimming, winning well over 100 gold medals in each sport, and is among the most successful NPCs in cycling.

Swimmer Matthew Cowdrey is the NPC's most successful athlete, both in terms of total medals and gold medals won. He won his first three Paralympic gold medals in Athens at age 15, taking seven medals in total at his debut Paralympic Games. After claiming eight medals in Beijing, he added another eight medals, including five gold, in London and took his tally to 23 medals, 13 of which were gold.

Australia won 81 medals at the 2016 Paralympic Games. The NPC claimed 22 gold, including a second-consecutive Paralympic title for the wheelchair rugby team.
