General Interest

General
Sweden booked their place at Tokyo 2020 through the Women's Olympic Qualification Tournaments held in March 2021. Their record of one win and one draw at Tournament 1 of the event was enough for them to secure a spot in Japan.

The Swedish team are making their fourth consecutive appearance at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, having debuted in 2008 in Beijing. They were ranked seventh at Rio 2016, which was their best placing at the Games, and the second time the team have reached an Olympic quarterfinal. On both occasions they progressed to the knockout stage, in 2008 and 2016, they were beaten by Norway in the last eight.

Sweden's best result at the world championship is a fourth-place finish in 2017. At the most recent edition of the tournament in 2019 in Japan, the Swedes qualified for the main round by finishing second in their preliminary stage group. However, they did not advance to the final round and were eventually ranked seventh.

Sweden have won two medals at the European championship, claiming silver in 2010 and bronze in 2014. The team placed 11th at the 2020 European Championship in Denmark, which was their lowest ranking at the tournament since they finished 14th in 2004.
