General
Spain qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo by winning the 2019 European U21 Championship in Italy and San Marino.

The Spanish team have competed at a total of 10 editions of the Olympic Games, having made their debut at the 1920 Games in Antwerp. They were eliminated at the group stage in their last Olympic outing in 2012, following a draw with Morocco and defeats to Honduras and Japan.

Spain's sole Olympic gold medal came on home soil at the 1992 Games in Barcelona. The hosts won all their group matches before defeating Italy and Ghana in the knockout stages to advance to the gold medal match. Spain beat Poland 3-2 in the final, with Kiko scoring the winning goal in the 90th minute. The Spanish team also reached the final eight years later in Sydney, where they went down to Cameroon despite leading 2-0 at half-time. The Cameroonians scored twice in the second half to tie the match, and then prevailed 5-3 in a penalty shootout.

Spain's only other medal came on their first Olympic appearance in 1920 when they finished with the silver medal in Antwerp.
