General Interest

General
Canada secured a spot in Tokyo after finishing second at the round robin Americas Olympic qualification tournament that was held on home soil in Surrey, British Columbia. A 2-1 loss to eventual winners Mexico was the only blemish on their record at the tournament, and the only match in which they conceded any runs.

Canada have taken part in all four previous Olympic Games to feature softball. The closest they have come to a medal was in 2008, when a 5-3 loss to Australia in the semifinals ended their campaign.

They have had more success at the world championships, claiming bronze after defeats to Japan in the medal round in both 2016 and 2018. The team also won a bronze medal in 2010 and a silver medal back in 1978, when they lost the final to the United States of America.

Canada secured seven podium finishes at the USA Softball-governed World Cup between 2005 and 2017. They won silver in 2014 and have claimed a total of six bronze medals, including one at the most recent edition of the tournament in 2017 when they beat Australia 3-0 for third place.

At continental level they have won nine medals at the Pan American Games. They beat the US team to gold in 1983 and 2015 and have finished as runners-up on six other occasions, including at the most recent edition in Lima in 2019.
