General Interest

Canada had won a medal in every Olympic Winter Games 3000m relay, until PyeongChang 2018. Leading the final, after the 24th lap, they were involved in a collision with Korea and finished fourth. They were also disqualified for an infringement with China. Canada’s only gold medal came in the inaugural 1992 contest, where they finished more than a second ahead of silver medallists, the United States. With four second-place finishes, their closest chance came in Torino 2006, when they were 0.296 seconds behind Korea.

Most successful nation at the World Championships, claiming 16 titles and 35 medals. Fifteen of those gold medals came between 1979 and 1997, with their last victory in 2005. Won back-to-back bronze medals in 2018 and 2019.

Canada has 70 World Cup podium finishes, third most behind China (83) and Korea (81), but has finished on top seven times, most recently in 2019 (Shanghai). Finished the 2019/20 season second overall, thanks to five out of six podium finishes (finishth in Dresden).
