Team Gill/Hewitt

General Interest

Australia will make its curling debut at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. The nation previously competed in curling, as a demonstration sport, at the Albertville 1992 Olympic Winter Games with the Australian team featuring Hewitt's father Steve.

Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt finished fourth at the 2019 World Mixed Doubles Championship before slumping to 13th in 2021. Their unlikely 7-0 run at the 2021 Olympic Qualifying Event clinched their berth for Beijing 2022.

Gill/Hewitt are 3-4 in head-to-head matchups against the field in Beijing. They are 1-1 against the Czech Republic and 1-1 versus Switzerland.

They are 13-0 this season. In addition to their run at the Olympic Qualifying Event, the pair won a World Curling Tour event in Okotoks, AB defeating Canada’s 2018 world bronze medallists 8-3 in the final.

Australia has no dedicated curling facilities. Athletes and recreational players alike must travel to a handful of multipurpose ice rinks to play once weekly in substandard ice conditions.
