In 2021 he was able to improve his serve speed by 15km/ph by using targeted stretching to loosen up his shoulder muscles. He quit powerlifting in training after noticing that it was slowing down his serve. "I used to do powerlifting - the training was so different. The reason you don't want massive muscles when you're playing tennis is because it really restricts your movement. By being fit and having more flexibility, it gives you a bigger range of motion so that you can do more on the tennis court." (sportsengine.com, 12 Jul 2021)
