General Interest

General
France are making their third Paralympic appearance at Tokyo 2020. The French team secured their place at the 2020 Games through their performance at the 2020 Paralympic Qualification Tournament in Canada.

At the 2016 Games they improved on their eighth-place finish from London 2012, beating hosts Brazil to sixth with a 59-54 victory in the classification round. The French team had lost all three matches in Group A, which included the US and Japanese teams who went on to win silver and bronze, respectively. They had also been defeated by the United States of America and Japan during the group stage in 2012, but in Rio they managed to narrow the margin of defeat against both teams.

France played at the last two world championships, and showed progress between the 2014 and 2018 editions of the tournament. At the 2018 World Championship in Sydney they edged the Canadians by a single point, their second victory over Canada at the tournament, to finish fifth overall. Four years previously they had ranked ninth.
