General Interest

General
The Netherlands qualified for Tokyo 2020 through the 2019 Europe Zonal Championships. The Dutch have competed at each edition of the Paralympic Games since 1984, winning four bronze medals and one silver medal during that period.

The Dutch team claimed back-to-back bronze medals at the Paralympic Games in 1988 and 1992, and then won silver at Atlanta 1996 with Canada running out 46-37 winners in the final. They had to wait until the 2012 Games in London to finish on the podium again, securing another bronze. At Rio 2016, the Dutch finished second behind the United States of America in Group B and then faced Canada in the last eight. A 78-60 victory set up a semifinal against Germany, which they lost 55-45, but they recovered to win bronze by defeating Great Britain in the third place match.

The Netherlands are reigning world champions, having secured gold with victory over the British team in the final in 2018. The Dutch team have competed at each edition of the world championship since 1990, and did not win their first medal - a bronze - until 2014.
