General
CAR HELP
She received a car on lease because she is an A-status athlete in the Netherlands, which she says has had an important impact on her life. "I have a spinal cord injury that prevents me from using my legs to drive. I therefore use a system with a hand throttle and hand brake. I use my left hand to steer, and with the right I accelerate and brake. It is difficult to take my sports wheelchair on public transport. That's why I used to be often taken to the sports hall by my parents. My own car gives me my freedom, and that is worth a lot to me. I am no longer dependent on others and this enlarges my world. Because it is a lease car, I no longer have to face unexpected costs." (welzorg.nl, 12 Nov 2020)
