She was talent spotted by a wheelchair basketball coach at a 'playground to podium' event in 2010. She joined Coventry Wheelchair Basketball Academy, wanting to take up sport as she was not able to do sport at school due to insurance problems. "When I first started playing, it was the social aspect that did it for me. I just loved playing a sport with like-minded people who looked like me and shared similar experiences. For the first time, I felt like I was in an environment where I didn't struggle among my peers and it provided a great opportunity to make new friends." RIO DISAPPOINTMENT
She says she fell out of love with the sport after not being selected for the British team at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, but has since put the disappointment in perspective. "I was balancing my A-levels [school exams] and my Rio hopes at the same time, and you can't have and succeed at both at the same time. I thought the world was going to end when I found out I wasn't going. I thought 'that's it'. For two or three months after I fell out of love with the game, I hated playing it, I didn't even play in the national league. All of a sudden I thought, 'I am only 17, it isn't the end of the world, your career is 10 to 15 years.' I think maybe if I'd gone to Rio, it wouldn't have helped me either. I wasn't ready. In my head at the time, as a naive 17-year-old, I really wanted to be there but looking back and speaking to my coaches now I'm grateful in a way that I didn't go." (swlondoner.co.uk, 08 Oct 2018)
