He took up the sport in Perth, WA, Australia, after beginning to run at school. "I was always this sort of team sport person, and I was the guy that avoided swimming and athletics carnivals at school. In grade 11 I just started doing some jogs. [After a knee operation] it slowly turned into 20-minute to 20km runs in grade 12." (Bindi Nutrition YouTube channel, 02 Jul 2021)

He took up triathlon when he moved to Perth, WA, Australia, as a way to socialise. "My passion for running was probably the first step. When I moved to Perth first year out of school, I didn't really know anyone and all I had was running. So, I kept running and slowly started to meet people and Perth has got a pretty strong running and triathlon scene. That's how it all began for me." (Bindi Nutrition YouTube channel, 02 Jul 2021)

General Interest

Classification
PTS5 (World Triathlon, 25 Jun 2021; Athlete, 26 Aug 2021)

Origin of Impairment
Congenital (catalystdietitian.com.au, 01 Jan 2020)

Impairment Details
He was born with a right club foot. His right leg has around 17% less muscle mass than his left leg. "When I was about 15 or 16, they [his doctors] realised my left leg was basically developing faster. So they operated on my good leg to ensure that the disparity between my left and right legs didn't become any more apparent. After that I also had a knee operation." (Bindi Nutrition YouTube channel, 02 Jul 2021; triathlon.org, 01 Apr 2020; catalystdietitian.com.au, 01 Jan 2020; wais.org.au, 17 Jun 2019; Athlete, 26 Aug 2021)

General
CLASSIFICATION
He was classified in the PTS5 category in 2019, having previously been deemed not to meet the criteria for classification. "At one stage I was classified, and then I was declassified. I guess back then the classification system still had a lot of grey areas and we were still testing out what disabilities were eligible or not. Since then the rules have changed, and my category PTS5, which I guess is the most able-bodied of the Para triathlon class, now deems me eligible. I'm racing guys that either have a slight leg deformity like myself or the large majority of athletes I've come up against are basically missing a hand or fingers or something like that. Most of the athletes without hands in my class are still very good swimmers." (Bindi Nutrition YouTube channel, 02 Jul 2021)

OCCUPATION
He runs Catalyst Dietitian in Claremont, WA, Australia. "I'd like to think that I certainly practise what I preach [as a nutritionist and dietitian]. I've been very lucky that I haven't had any significant injuries, and I'd like to contribute that to good, sound nutrition practice." (Facebook page, 07 Aug 2021; Bindi Nutrition YouTube channel, 02 Jul 2021)

EDUCATION
He has studied for a master's degree in nutrition and dietetics at Edith Cowan University in Perth, WA, Australia. (LinkedIn profile, 01 Jan 2014)
