BROTHERLY SUPPORT
In July 2018 he and his younger brother Nathan both took part in the Australian trials for the Pan Pacific championships that were due to take place later in the year. He met the required time for the 400m freestyle in the heats and qualified for the final of the event at the trials, but Nathan missed the qualifying time and was named first reserve for the final. Braedan then voluntarily pulled out of the final, meaning Nathan took his place and had another shot at making the qualification time, which he did in a personal best time. "Once I knew I'd hit the time I needed and Nathan had qualified 11th, it was an instinctive thing to pull out of the final and give the little fella a chance to do it too. I told him I was looking to pull out and also spoke to my coach about it, and he asked him, 'Nathan, how keen are you to swim the final?' And he said 10/10 so we did it. Because we'd missed the withdrawal time we had to pay a 100 Australian dollars fine but at the end of the day no amount of money is going to stop me from helping my brother."
