She decided to focus on swimming over other sports because it was low-impact, as she had experienced pain in her left knee. Swimming was also recommended by her doctor as a form of therapy, and by Bob McEvoy, who became her coach. "Then I started really liking it. I also liked the competition." General
BUSHFIRE IMPACT
Her family were severely affected by the Australian bushfires in early 2020, losing much of their property. "This year [2020] has been incredibly tough on me and my family. At the start of this year, we lost about 90 per cent of our property to the bushfires. I stayed at home to help defend with my family before heading to the Australian Institute of Sport for some much-needed training." (southcoastregister.com.au, 07 May 2020)

COVID-19 IMPACT
After the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo were postponed she said she believed the additional year would help her preparations for the Games. "Even though I was set on hopefully competing at this year's Games [in 2020], I think an extra year of training and developing, as I'll be 16 then, will definitely be a benefit and improve my chances. This time has also made me mentally stronger, as it's been difficult to stay motivated at times." (southcoastregister.com.au, 07 May 2020)
