General Interest

General
Germany claimed the last qualification spot for the men's sitting volleyball tournament in Tokyo, after defeating Kazakhstan in the final of the Paralympic qualification tournament on home soil in Duisburg in June 2021. Tokyo will be their seventh Paralympic appearance since competing as a unified Germany for the first time at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, where they defeated Finland to win bronze. They lost the bronze medal match to Egypt in 2004 in Athens, and were absent from the 2008 Games in Beijing. Upon their return at London 2012, a 3-0 semifinal defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina set up a bronze medal game against the Russian Federation, which Germany won 3-2.

At the most recent Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, the German team won its group match against the United States of America but lost the other two to Egypt and Brazil, which meant they failed to progress to the knockout stages. They went on to lose the fifth-place classification match to Ukraine and ended Rio ranked sixth. Prior to reunification, the Federal Republic of Germany won a silver medal at the 1984 Games after losing the final to the Netherlands.

On the world championship stage, Germany claimed a silver medal at the 2002 edition after losing the final to Bosnia and Herzegovina, but have failed to return to the podium since then. They finished 10th at their most recent appearance in 2018. At the European championships they finished third in 2019 after defeating Ukraine in the bronze medal match.
