General Interest

General
Brazil are making their fourth Paralympic appearance in Tokyo, having first competed at the 2008 Games in Beijing, where they posted wins over Japan and Iraq to finish sixth overall. Since then they have steadily improved, progressing to the quarterfinals and a fifth-place finish at London 2012 thanks to wins against Rwanda, the People's Republic of China, Great Britain and Egypt. The trend continued in 2016, when as host nation they qualified for the semifinals, but were knocked out by eventual champions the Islamic Republic of Iran. A home crowd almost helped them to third place but the Egyptian team proved too strong, defeating Brazil 3-2 in the bronze medal match in Rio.

At the world championships the Brazilians have fared better. At the 2014 edition they were surprise finalists after defeating reigning world champions the Islamic Republic of Iran in five sets in the semifinals, but their fairytale ended in the final at the hands of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the 2018 edition, the Brazilians lost to eventual runners-up Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semifinals, but bounced back to successfully defend their spot on the podium. Brazil's straight sets win against Ukraine in the bronze medal match was their second defeat of the Ukrainians at the tournament, following a victory in the pool phase.

Brazil qualified for Tokyo courtesy of a gold medal at the 2019 Parapan American Games, having also won gold at the 2015 edition of the tournament.
