Impairment Details
In 2003 he lost his right foot after his motorcycle collided with a train. "I crossed the railway, a common road that I took every day and did not look to my side. I was hit and thrown away. HARD TIMES
In 2018 his 26 year-old son-in-law passed away just 30 days after marrying Da Silva's daughter. The tragedy hit him hard and kept him out of the sport for a while. "He was a young man that I loved so much, like a son. I was depressed, I gained 20 kilograms. At the beginning I said that I didn't want to come back [to the Brazilian national team], I was not motivated. The staff told me that I couldn't continue like this, that they needed me, and that there were a lot of youngsters on the team [who also needed him]. And I ended up accepting."
