After rehabilitating from his injuries he decided to go to Moscow, Russian Federation, to take up Para rowing. He competed in the sport at the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, where he also became acquainted with sitting volleyball players from the Rodnik club. They asked him to join their team as he had played some volleyball in school. He hesitated to accept their offer but eventually made the switch after meeting the team's coach Viktor Dyakov.
