In 2007 she was on a rail road platform waiting for a train to pass, when a piece of wire from the train hooked onto her and dragged her for 17 metres under its wheels, severely injuring her legs. After multiple operations and blood transfusions, doctors decided to amputate her legs, one below the knee and the other above the knee. "My biggest victory is victory over myself. It was hard, but I believed in myself, in my strength." (dynamo.ru, 24 Oct 2014; spravedlivo.ru, 23 Jan 2014; chel.kp.ru, 06 Feb 2009; blago74.ru, 30 Jan 2009)

ICE HOCKEY SUPPORT
She is a loyal supporter of the Dynamo ice hockey team in Moscow, Russian Federation. She tries to go to every home match and is well-recognised by the team's players. The club held a charity event in 2014 to help raise funds to buy her new prosthetic legs, as she was struggling to find lightweight, durable prostheses. "I had prosthetics, but they were very heavy and uncomfortable for lengthy walking. My big dream is to stand up on both legs again." (dynamo.ru, 24 Oct 2014; sovsport.ru, 18 Apr 2013)
